CactusCon 12 Update on Tickets

Over the past 13 years, CactusCon has served Arizona’s security community as the largest hacker event in the State, in fact, one of the largest in the Southwest. With the help of local volunteers, businesses, and a lot of dedication—we’ve been able to do all of that without charging for attendance. CactusCon is a completely volunteer-run organization where all of the money received goes back into the conference, and thus the community. In 2019 CactusCon received non-profit 501c3 status.

Since we started this event, we’ve operated from three values: vendor neutrality, highest quality talks, and free to attend. This year, however, we need to make an amendment.

As the conference has grown, so has the complexity of running the main and associated events. Raising a small amount of capital to hang out at an arcade is a lot easier than the near $100k we must manage each year to pull off the event we have now. From lockpicking, to artificial intelligence, to hands-on labs and to capture the flags—we’ve continued to innovate and support in new ways every year.

To this end, as a move to maintain our event’s integrity for the next 13+ years, we are introducing a different model for registration. We will be offering three different community sponsor tiers, a limited number of free tickets, and access for students.

CactusCon 12 Ticket Descriptions

  • Tier one: The first tier will just be to sponsor the event and guarantee a spot.

  • Tier two: The second will include a limited-edition custom ‘thank you’ from us.

  • Tier three: This will include our electronic badge.

  • Free: we will offer a limited number of free tickets.

  • Students: If you are an active student and need a ticket, visit the registration desk on Friday or Saturday.

As we are a non-profit, your ticket is considered a donation, so it is tax deductible. We will continue to offer the opportunity to come for free, with a limited number of ‘first come / first served’ tickets being made available closer to the conference.

We hope this model will keep us growing and innovating year over year and bringing new and exciting things to Arizona. We appreciate your support over the past years and look forward to years to come.
